  • Slatkin Conducts MSM Students in All-American Program

    Leonard began the 2023-24 season by sharing his passion for American repertoire with the students of the Manhattan School of Music, where he holds the title of Distinguished Visiting Artist in Conducting and Orchestral Studies. The concert, which included works by Ellington, Bates, and Hovhaness before concluding with Gershwin’s An American in Paris, is available to stream on demand.

  • Slatkin Conducts Oregon Symphony

    October 9, 2023

    Leonard is headed to Portland for three concerts with the Oregon Symphony and guest cellist Joshua Roman October 14-16. The program consists of Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, the Elgar Cello Concerto, and Anthology of Fantastic Zoology by Mason Bates. One hour before each performance, Leonard will join Brandi Parisi, host of All Classical Radio, onstage to discuss the repertoire.

Wars, interminable lines at airports, unbearable heat in the West, continued chaos at the Kennedy Center, and so much more. What can we do to alleviate some of this tension? And how fortunate are some of us to be able to bring solace and comfort through music?

March turned out to be an extraordinary month full of wonderful surprises and memorable moments. At first, I was dreading this nine-week European tour without a meaningful break between engagements. The trip comprises eight countries and seven different languages, if you count the Scottish dialect. Fortunately, I am giving repeat performances of several works over this timeframe and only conducting two pieces that are new to me.
