The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra announced that they will perform Leonard Slatkin’s composition Kinah on April 20 and April 22, 2017. Conductor Ward Stare will conduct the RPO in a program that opens with Slatkin’s elegy to his parents and closes with Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. The piece incorporates themes from the slow movement of the Brahms Double Concerto, which Slatkin’s parents were scheduled to perform together for the first time when Felix died of a heart attack at the age of 47. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra premiered Kinah in December 2015, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform it November 4-6, 2016.
